I haven’t talked about Cigar History in the making Kinky Friedman, in a very long time! And for those newbies to the cigar community the “Who’s Who” of cigar celebrity is none other than good ole Kinky Friedman.
Richard S. “Kinky” Friedman (born October 31 or November 1, 1944) is an American singer, songwriter, novelist, humorist, politician and former columnist for Texas Monthly who styles himself in the mold of popular American satirists Will Rogers and Mark Twain.
When I decided to follow up with the cigar chomping Kinky, I discovered that Kinky Friedman the author is now “Kinky for Governor 2010″ . He was one of two independent candidates in the 2006 election for the office of Governor of Texas, and is throwing his signature 10 gallon black stetson back in the race as the 2010 Democratic Texas gubernatorial candidate.
Kinky has his own brand of cigars, t-shirts, and accessories, and boasts “What makes Kinky Friedman such a great cigarmaker? His passion for good cigars” Kinky is everywhere. “Governor Perry says ‘Don’t mess with Texas,’ ” Friedman told the Rotary Club of Fort Worth. “I, as governor, will mess with Texas, and I’m going to keep messing with it until we get it right.”
So, leave it to Kinky to mess with Texas – With that Kinky Friedman style, show the rest of the nation that the cigar community is alright and to stop messing with us!
