(This is a work of fiction. All characters, places and events are imaginary. My thanks to Dee, who told me something that inspired this.)

Why can’t all cigar stores organize their humidors the same, Sarah wondered as she bent down, looking for a Churchill Baccarat. She could find her way blindfolded through the humidor at the Tinder Box. Unfortunately, she was at the Smoke Haus, where the humidor seemed to have been organized according to a secret pattern someone gave up on because it got too complicated.

"Really, you can’t sell someone their favorite cigar if they can’t find it," she said.

Usually, she didn’t shop at the Smoke Haus. It was a little too close to home, and Sarah wasn’t quite sure if she wanted a lot of people to know that she smoked cigars. She had just celebrated her cigar anniversary a month ago, and lighting up in public still made herself-conscious.

The Tinder Box was in a ritzier shopping center on the other side of town. While it was possible someone Sarah knew might see her there,Sarah didn’t think it was likely. She had come to the Smoke Haus today because she had just been told she was going to Denver, and the Tinder Box seemed too far to drive to in order to get some good cigars for the trip.

Sarah brushed her hair back and looked at the endless boxes of Macanudos before her. Where the hell did they keep the Churchill Baccarats? Of course, they ended up being in the far right corner, farthest from the door. Sarah felt a real sense of triumph when she found them.

"I’ll take five," she said to herself. "That way I don’t have to come back here."

Cigars in hand, she headed toward the sliding glass door. Through it,she could see the entrance to the Smoke Haus, but as she reached forthe handle, Sarah froze. She couldn’t believe who was stepping into the cigar store.
