now they’re bringing in the FDA!
Gary Malenski wrote an article last week, advising us of yet another piece of legislation meant to protect us and curb our cigar smoking preferences. And although, the legislation, as written, does not address large cigars on point, it does leave plenty of room for "tobacco products"….
"to impose appropriate regulatory controls on the tobacco industry;"
As reported in Gary’s article, the U.S. House passed a bill giving the Food and Drug Administrationthe power to regulate cigarettes and other tobacco products. The question is whether the FDA should be the govering arm for the Cigar Manufacturers?
IMHO, I agree with the regulation on tobacco in the form of "cigarettes" – I consider myself to be a non-smoker, in the traditional sense, but an enthusiast in the cigar culture – I clearly see the difference between the two. I understand the dangers of nicotine. I fully support the prevention of smoking among the youth. So, if I, a Woman Cigar Enthusiast aka Aficionada, am willing to support the zealots in the purge against the evils of "cigarette smoking" – why must we accept their refusal to acknowledge our culture?
My suggestion – write your laws as you see fit to protect against the health risks, and public dangers of a pack of cigarettes, but exempt the large cigar, acknowledge our rich heritage and culture - and leave us out of your fight!
"Smoke Responsibly – share a Cigar!"
and that, my friends, is my four cents…
