There's no doubt women have come a long way....
and some of today's women are choosing to celebrate their expanded economic horizons by lighting a cigar!

So in asking the question - Are we really ready for women to assume their role as the hidden viable market in which the growing number of women smoking and purchasing cigars demonstrate - and are we really ready to come out from lurking in the darkness or do we fear deteriorating into the cigar industry's shadows, foregoing our Avante Garde mysterious personas hence becoming a blip in the demographic?

Should a brave cigar manufacturer take up the challenge and treat women cigar smokers equally and in the same right as their male counterparts?  I have likened the step sister scenario to the lack of attention women who smoke cigars receive from the makers and promoters of the cigar.

Not to say women are unnoticed as there has been reporting of forums on women, cigars and the industry.  And not to say, cigar manufacturers such as Rocky Patel, Drew Estates, Toran and Camacho have all accepted that women do exist and we know our cigars.  The market is there - but are they ready to take it to the next level....Better yet, are we ready to accept the cigar companies taking a risk on us?

Good question Damsel....

I asked a representative from a well known cigar accessory manufacturer recently, what he supposed was the hold up on catering to this potentially lucrative market.  Here's what he had to say:

"Damsel - most manufacturers aren't willing to take the risk on the start up costs associated with this market (speaking of women and cigars) and prototype development - and so many brands have spent so much dollars to market themselves as the guy's go-to cigar for all those "guy moments" that they are scared to gamble their street cred by having any type of women's product." [this is not a verbatim quote]

Understading what the cigar companies and accessory manufacturers are up against.  A worthy concern for sure. They still see, no matter what the numbers may represent, advertising and marketing to women cigar smokers in this demographic is a risk to their image, and ultimately their bottom line.

So ladies, we must be ready to assume our place within this community.  Ladies, we must expect to see advertising directed solely to women cigar smokers when flipping through Smoke Magazine or other industry related magazines.  We must expect to have "Herfs" for women, and we must expect to see the cigar companies send out more swag with a woman's touch.  Maybe eventually we can expect to see a blend just for us!

Until then, Damsel will continue to fight the good fight, and I will get the point across!  I've said this once, and I will say it again and again....

We smoke cigars because of the Community, Camaraderie and the Culture - Not to intimidate, or take from our brothers - We don't want the "Old Boy's Club" - We want our own!
