"As a graduate of Vermont Law School, Sandi Turnipseed started smoking cigars in 2001.  While on vacation in Dominican Republic with her boyfriend, Sandi tried her first Cohiba, and that started her journey into the world of cigars."

My journey began as a Life in Transition, many of my readers have heard me refer to my first encounter with a cigar smoke  "....he crept into my life, introduced me to a Romeo y Julieta on Sunset...and crept back out" the famous words of the Cigar Woman! Years have passed now, he no longer exists in my life, but the memory of my first cigar will always linger on..and so it is with many of my sisters...SOTL - the Sisters of the Leaf. I came to Social Cigar seeking a refuge and to flock with other Women who Smoke Cigars - and lo and behold, I found a place among the Men who Love Us!

Sandi is only one of the many diverse faces among the Woman's Group at Social Cigar, and I hope to bring you her story, as well as others, in order to portray the "Real Cigar Woman" capturing the New-Age face and personality of this unique sector of the cigar demographic.

From her own words:

As a young African American woman living in NYC, the cigar cultural is very inviting and welcoming at times to Sandi.  When she visits the various local NYC cigar shops, she's always treated with respect by the guys in the lounge.  However, upon visiting a recently opened NYC cigar shop, Sandi was treated as if she was buying cigars for her boyfriend.  After having to explain that she was the one smoking the cigar, the shop owner quickly changed his tune as Sandi walked out of the door.  Over time, Sandi expects more and more women will come out of the closet and let the world know they smoke cigars.   Says Sandi:

"It's always nice to be at an event and see other women smoking cigars, and not to be the odd woman out, or have the non-smoking women look at you as if you have 5 heads."

Since joining Social Cigar in December 2007, Sandi has found an entire new world for her cigar passion.  At SC, there are members from across the entire country that exchange their thoughts on various cigars.  Also, there is a growing population of women cigar smokers, which she is very proud to be a part of.   With new women members joining every week, and multiple women groups within Social Cigar, Sandi is happy to share her smoking experiences with other women, as well as learn from the other women too.  The bond of the SC Women grows every week, as we present a different light to the cigar smoking experience. [end quote]

As you can see, this young African-American woman, well educated with a bright future is what the new face of the woman who smokes cigars is all about. She does not play into the sexual conotation that has been the status quo for many women who engage in the cigar culture. She is well respected among her brothers and sisters at Social Cigar and graced with an equal passage into the revolution taking place at Social Cigar!

And she is one of the women I am priviledged to know!

Next time, I hope to bring you yet another face to the "Women at Social Cigar"

Now who's smoking what in the Blogoshpere!

As usual, I have to check in with my buddy Jesse at Cigar Jack

Jesse reviewed The AVO 787 one of the newest editions to the AVO cigar line and Jesse's current favorite. You can read his review of the AVO 787 Perfecto to "see my thoughts on it." Check out what everyone else is saying about the AVO 787!

Jesse also interviewed Eddie Ortega of EO Brands makers of one of my favorites the 601 cigar. Daniel talks about the cancelled Big Smoke in Chicago, and offers the CAO takes on the cancelled Smoke out! Busy as a beaver over there Jesse!

Long time no talk about the Tobacco Barn! Fuente Blow Out

Tobacco Barn has been serving the needs of cigar and pipe smokers since 1929. These discriminating customers have not only frequented the Southern California shop, but have taken advantage of phone and fax orders. The Tobacco Barn, along with their CigarTailor private-labelled cigar service, has been serving the online community since 2003

And last but not least, and most importantly, Camacho has just announced the release date for the highly anticipated Camacho Corojo 10th Anniversary! I had the pleasure of taking part in the pre-release of this cigar, and it more than surpassed my expectations. My review at Social Cigar went a little sumthin' like this...

A very full medium bodied with a subtle kick masterpiece. Thank you Christian for the preview! Although I didn't get the relaxing moment I had planned for, this cigar needed only a light, and a spontaneous smoke; everything was perfect. Even the weather's mild up here, so the cold didn't interfere. It began with a bang. I agree - an initial leathery taste, with the spicy peppery flavor soon resting on my palate. It remained consistent throughout the smoke, with a subtle smooth caramel peaking out as I approached midway. Incredible construction, and the ash remained firm and white until the end. It took me almost 30 mins to finish the cigar, and I struggled with myself to let it go!

Being the gurl that I am, and my love for something sweet - one tip for the ladies, try munching on a "Robin's Egg" between draws...absolute paradise...lol... definition: Robin's Egg - Candy covered malt chocolate balls. My way of lessening the corojo blow!

Camacho's Corojo 10th Anniversary gets a Big Time Lady's Nod!

Well that's it for this weekend...and ladies hope to see you at Social Cigar - tell us Damsel sent you!
