Here’s my Review of this Super Cigar!
I reviewed the Excalibur 1066 aka Hoyo de Monterrey Dark Knight….
A full-bodied Honduran cigar with a Connecticut Broadleaf Madurowrapper, instead of the Cameroon that its counterparts have. Excalibur1066 is named after the legendary sword of King Arthur and the historicBattle of Hastings.
I paired the Dark Knight with my latest taste craze, the Chocolate Covered Coffee Bean – what an amazing couple they made!
Prior to light inspection, this cigar was a beautiful oily wrappedMaduro – it gave off a sweet smell and fruity pre-light draw. Its firmconstruction and rich appearance, indicated I was well on my way to agreat smoke!
After clipping the head, and toasting the foot, the initial light andfirst leg went smooth; with an easy light and mild tobacco flavor.Soon, the rich flavor typical of the Maduro was prominent, with anunderlying bitter chocolate and toasty nut. I noted a lack ofsweetness, which I attribute to the Broadleaf Maduro wrapper. I quiteenjoy the sweetness of a cigar, not to say a flavored cigar, but just ahint of caramel or honey. The pairing of the Chocolate covered CoffeeBean was an ideal stand in!
From start to finish, the cigar burned evenly with a firm solid whiteash. Billows of pure white smoke, and a rich earthy cigar aroma.
At mid way, a slight peppery sense crept in, and its earthy tonesremained consistent with its rich Maduro flavor. I had absolutely noissues with the light, burn or flavor of this cigar. I could now kickback, relax, and simply enjoy the afternoon smoke!
Total smoke time was just under 40 minutes, and I smoked it down as faras could – by Nubsville, a peppery complex tobacco flavor settled in,which kicked it up a notch. Popping a Chocolate coffee bean – made itan absolute smashing end to a perfect smoke, and a perfect afternoon.
