Diana Silvius
The Up Down Tobacco Store

Everybody knows Diana! She is the true, one and only Cigar Woman.

In 1963 Diana Silvius opened a small shop named the Gerald Bernard Gallery at 205 West North Avenue in Chicago’s Old Town neighborhood. Her store featured the art of experimental and unknown local talents. Mixed in with the unique art was a fine tobacco department. By 1965, Diana decided to expand the business and focus on her new love, fine tobacco and cigars. Up Down Tobacco was born.

Located in the heart of Chicago’s historic Old Town neighborhood, Up Down Tobacco became a neighborhood institution as well as one of the most famous tobacco and cigar stores in the world. Being the first woman to break into the ranks of a male-dominated industry wasn’t easy, but Diana was up for the challenge. Not only did she meet that challenge, in 1991 she was elected as the first female president of the RTDA.

Over the years Diana has made long, close relationships with manufacturers and suppliers from all over the world. Diana has traveled the world in an effort to learn firsthand about the tobacco industry. Her visits to the Davidoff operations, trips to the cigar manufacturers in the Canary Islands, Honduras and Dominican Republic, are among her many travels in an effort to learn firsthand about the tobacco industry.

Everyone knows Diana. Her close relationship with the Fuente Family has helped her develop her own line of cigars, now sold throughout the world as the Diana Silvius Diamond Vintage.

She is the official Cigar Woman. Just knowing of this Cigar Woman is humbling.
